Group Assignment - Building Services System

Energy Efficient Ventilation System

In this assignment, we were divided in a group of 6. Our group members are Wiiliam Goh, Yap Kian Hoong, Lucas Lau, Lim Jie Qi, Kiing Kiu Chun and I, Sherlyn Ang. This assignment is a study on building services system with the selected topics such as ventilation system, telecommunication, storm water system, cold water supply and hot water supply system. We were required to carry out our own research study based on given topic supported by at least one case study either in local or oversea.

As for our group, the selected topic was Energy Efficient Ventilation System. We were asked to carry out survey on the selected topic and need to prepare a documentation report and presentation slides for it. We were need to explain its application, system, installation process, benefits, problems, and anything relevant to support the documentation. Moreover, highlighting the recommendations for future improvement. We had breakdown our task into various parts, they are six types of energy efficient ventilation systems such as Passive Stack Ventilation (PSV), Single Room Heat Recovery Ventilation (SRHRV), Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV), Positive Input Ventilation (PIV), Intermittent extract fans and background ventilators and whole house ventilation with heat-recovery. There are parts for management system, advantages and disadvantages, application, future recommendations and case study as well.

After having first meeting with group members, we distributed the works among ourselves. Whereas for me, I’m in charge of researching on whole house ventilation with heat recovery and case study. We had chosen One City Sky Park as our case study site as it is well known for its green key features and sustainable design. One City Sky Park is designed with many passive design features which then make it more ventilated without using much energy consumption. These features are green wall, water features, sky roof and glass panel. The building is well developed and well planned. Therefore, this is why it obtained its Silver GBI.

After completion upon this assignment, I’m able to understand and explain relevant information related to the selected case study and identify the application, system installation, process, benefits and problems for energy efficient ventilation system. In addition, I have developed higher-order intellectual skills and further enhanced my evaluating skills and critical thinking skills after completing this assignment.
