This module covers the principles, purpose and function of Standard Method of Measurement (SMM2) including measurement principles, descriptions and standard phraseology. It also covers the measurement of brickwork of internal and external walls, timber floors and stud partitions, staircase structure and staircase balustradings; floor, wall, ceiling and staircase finishes including painting. All measurements will be based on the Standard Method of Measurements for Building Works Second Edition by the Royal Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia.
Develop an understanding of the principles of measurement and techniques in preparing BQ and specification writing
Have sufficient knowledge and understanding of the Standard Method of Measurement (SMM) in taking-
off quantities
Broaden and refine the student’s skills relating to the measurement and description of building works
Through this module, I'm able to generate a conceptual understanding and the ability to competently carry out the preparation of the Bills of Quantities for brickworks, stud partitions, staircase structure, staircase finishes and balustrading, floor, wall and ceiling finishes and precast concrete piling. Moreover, distinguish and illustrate differences in writing-up descriptions in accordance to design changes for brickworks, stud partitions, staircase structure, staircase finishes and balustrading, floor, wall and ceiling finishes and precast concrete piling.
