
Financial Management [ FIN 60203 ]

This is a 4 credit hour module that conducted over a period of 14 weeks. The modes of delivery will be in the form of lectures, tutorials, and self-directed study. The module introduces students to management practices which covers both financial and organizational aspects in relation to construction projects. It also emphasize on the examination of resource-use systems, particularly the finances of a construction project as well as the management of important resources in ensuring quality performance from the project staff. Students will be exposed to various terms of finance, which cover financial information systems and capital investments.
It allows student to identify the appropriateness of financial management systems for different construction projects and implement the accountancy principles and practices in examining the construction company’s finances and accounts. Students will be able to define the appropriate cost control structure and technology in ensuring the quality management and total quality management (TQM) of the entire construction performance. Moreover, give an opportunity for students to apply capital investment techniques in analyzing the cost and benefit for particular construction projects.
From the lectures that had been conducted by Ms. Tay, I've learned to understand the core principles and practices of financial management in maximizing the value of a firm. Furthermore, able to appraise capital investment proposals using various methods of capital budgeting. Not only that, I'm able to forecast and manage the cash flows of a business. Most importantly, be able to outline the business of construction project through proper strategic management theory and techniques.
