This is a 3 credit hour module that conducted over a period of 14 weeks. The modes of delivery will be in the form of lectures, tutorials, and self-directed study. This module mainly provides student the basic knowledge on preparation of quantities taking off, preparation of rate build up and preparation of bill of quantities by using QS computer software.

It develops student’s technical knowledge and practical computer skills required by future employers. Furthermore, it allows student to use computing methods and new technologies with confidence over a range of appropriate software tools and to respond quickly, effectively and efficiently in a constantly changing technological environment. It makes student to become familiar with and be able to use speedy, reliable and accurate computerized data handling software system for the construction industry which relies heavily on manual operations and the ability to undertake project work in an individual or group context.

From the lectures that had been conducted by Ms. Lim, I've learned to distinguish the different types of software programs available in the market and their limitations in usage. Not only that, I've learned to make use of the appropriate software as a tool to complement their skills and knowledge in their discipline of study for example in the preparation of Bills of Quantities, Estimating, Tendering and Progress Payments and generate and retrieve reports for decision making. Last but not least, implement cost control procedures to consider alternatives and make well-reasoned recommendations promptly.
