Construction Law [ LAW 63804 ]

This is a 4 credit hour module that conducted over a period of 14 weeks. The modes of delivery will be in the form of lectures, tutorials, and self-directed study. The module has taught me to identify, explain and distinguish the various laws related to construction industry including construction statutes by demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the principles of law, conditions of contract and the applicable statutes. Moreover, take appropriate methods of dispute avoidance and resolution for different situations arising from construction contract. 

This module provides an understanding of the principles of construction laws and its application. It give us the opportunity to have in-depth knowledge on the application of the law and the remedies available to the parties. The importance of adhering to the specific procedures and notices that forms basic principle of construction law are also emphasized in this module. In additional, this module enhance students to solve matters regarding contractual claims, analyze disputes and the respective liabilities.

From this module, I've learned to understand the general principles of contract law and formation of a contract and remedies in the event of breach with reference to relevant case laws including to appreciate awareness of CIDB Construction Law Report which will be updated and published by CIDB annually. Furthermore, able to understand the role of architect, quantity surveyor and other construction players in relation to professional negligence and the use of collateral contract and collateral warranties . Not only that, I'm able to appreciate the laws relating to suspension and determination, payments, contractual claims as applied to construction projects with specific reference to common construction contract clauses and interpretation rules of ambiguity found in documents.
