Design of Fire Protection Systems for High Rise Buildings in Malaysia

This group assignment stands 30% of the total assessment. We were divided in a group of 6, our group members are Aishah, Andrew, Chloe, Lek Vun, Wei Qian and I. We were requested to prepare a report of a study on the design of fire protection systems for high rise buildings in Malaysia. The objective of the study is to understand the design of fire protection systems for various types of high rise buildings.

The study should include fire safety measures complying with the requirements of the Malaysian Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) 1984, main causes and effects of fire in high rise buildings, passive and active fire protection systems, layout and details drawings showing the fire protection systems. As for our group, we were assigned with one type of high rise building for case study which is hotel. As for me, I’m responsible for the active fire protection systems part.

From this assignment, we’ve learned the use of different designs of fire protection system for high rise buildings, aware of the challanges and solutions of fire fighting in high rise building as well as familiarize with the current by laws regulations for fire protection system. With all the efforts that we put in, we were able to finish the assignment efficiently.
